Dey needs mo' men even." (Hurston 173). This quote shows that after the hurricane there is a need for workers because there is a lot of rebuilding and restoring to be done. According to ODI, "Major natural disasters can and do have severe negative short-run economic impacts. Disasters also appear to have adverse longer-term consequences for economic growth, development and poverty reduction." In the Novel, when Janie and Tea Cake went to another city, they experienced the political effects when Tea Cake was forced to work and the politicians only gave proper graves to the white people. That is how they politically dealt with the situation, and it correlates with how Katrina was dealt with politically. "The rescue and recovery efforts following Katrina became highly politicized, with federal, state and local officials pointing fingers at one another. Critics blamed an aging and neglected federal levee system and a slow state and local response following the disaster for the high loss of life and damage. Many residents did not heed initial warnings to evacuate, putting a severe strain on rescue operations." livescience.com. The politicians were put under pressure, which led them to make mistakes and do the wrong things. Natural Disasters can ruin and economy and make politics a problem for the citizens of effected areas.
